What is a Hand Therapist?
A hand therapist is an occupational or physical therapist who, through advanced study, specializes in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremities.

Who does a Hand and Occupational Therapist serve?

Hand and Occupational Therapists work with a variety of upper extremity disorders.  For example, patients who may have been affected by an accident or trauma leaving them with scars, burns, injured tendons or nerves, fractures, or amputations of the finger.

Therapists also treat patients who are disabled from the effects of repetitive motion disorders - such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome.  Many others seeking the care of a hand therapist may suffer from such chronic problems as arthritis or a neurological condition.

Therapists work with the patient - in any situation - to provide a continuum of care.  This often starts within the first few days of the injury or surgery right through to the patient's return to work and productive lifestyle.

Qualified Hand and Occupational Therapists can assess and identify problems of the upper extremity.  Therapists then effectively treat and rehabilitate patients.

Our goal is to provide each patient with the tools needed to return to his or her maximum level of function in their home, office, or work environment.  We use a goal-oriented, positive approach to therapy.  We stay in close communication with each patient throughout the length of their case.
